Beating the Bounds is an old custom, when maps were rare, of marking the boundaries of the Parish by walking round them and sharing the knowledge of where they lay.

This year, 2018, we shall be Beating the Bounds of Redbourn Parish on Sunday 6th May.

It is a cheerful community event and I hope young and old will join us for whatever part of it they fancy.

9.00 am - Harpenden Lane Roundabout - 2.6 miles - 1 hour

10.00 am - Norrington End (loo+refreshments) - 30 mins

10.30 am - Norrington End - set out - 3.6 miles - 1 hour 30 mins

12 noon - St Mary’s (tea+talk) - 30 mins

12.30 pm - St Mary’s - set out - 3 miles - 1 hour 15 mins

1.45 pm - Wood End Farm barn break (lunch) - 30 mins

2.15 pm - Wood End Farm - set out - 3.4 miles - 1 hour 15 mins

3.30 pm - Bow Bridge / Shafford - 1.3 miles - 40 mins

4.10 pm - Redbournbury Mill - 1.2 miles - 30 mins

4.40 pm - Redbourn, The Chequers

A short way before Wood End Farm, there is a chance to cut back along the Nicky Line back to Redbourn if you don’t feel like going further.

There is no need to do it all. Join us at whatever stage you like.

I am happy to lead the walk but would dearly love to have people who are willing to lead part of it or be willing to be a back-marker – again for as much of the route as suits.
