Redbourn Players – The Secret Tent

April 28, 2016 @ 19:30 - April 30, 2016 @ 19:30

Redbourn Players is currently rehearsing for their Spring production which will be performed in the village hall from Thursday 28th to Saturday 30th April.

The play is the same as that performed fifty years ago: ‘The Secret Tent’ by Elizabeth Addyman.

This marked the first performance which has continued without break to date.

The play opens on a happy domestic scene, Chris Martyn (David Howell) is preparing to attend an old boys’ reunion and his wife Ruth (Becky Vernon-Clinch) to visit the cinema with her friend whilst her mother-in-law, Naomi (Pauline Mead) baby-sits. When Ruth fails to return home, the police are called in and a body is found. Chris has the traumatic experience of having to identify his murdered wife.

The couple are constantly visited by a gossiping busybody Miss Mitchum-Brown (Benita Gilliam) with her sharp nose in everyone’s business.

Ernie (Euan Howell a far cry from Red Rhum, the leader of the pirates) is also a regular visitor to the home that has witnessed some mysterious happenings.

Inspector Thornton (Martin Boutland) is called in to investigate. He is shrewd, tactful and all that a well-trained inspector should be.

Our final character is Miss Pearce (Maureen Wallis) the Headmistress of an Approved School. Miss Pearce reveals disturbing information about Ruth’s past.

The happy domestic scene has turned into one of deceit, suspicion, lies and murder.

This play is renowned for its intense atmosphere – we defy you to guess the conclusion!

There will be a licensed bar and ice cream on sale at each performance.

Tickets will be on sale from the end of March for £9 and £7 concessionary. Our Box offices are Ashtons - Redbourn and Arrangements Florist in Redbourn High Street,
