Harpenden Lane – The Watersplash

This photo is taken in about 1910, shows where Harpenden Lane crossed over the River Ver at a ford. In the background of the photo below the railway bridge on the line from Hemel to Harpenden can be clearly seen.

The ford in 1910

After the ford, Harpenden Lane continued under the railway and up the hill towards Harpenden. The road was originally called New Mills Lane.
